Arriving by Car:

From the North & South: Exit the M6 at Junction 36 and take the A591 towards Windermere & Ambleside, once in Ambleside take the A593 towards Coniston. Before arriving in Coniston village turn left and follow signs for Brantwood, when you reach the head of the lake turn right for Brantwood on the East Lake Road. Townson Ground & The Garden House are situated half a mile along this road on the left hand side.

Arriving by Train:

The nearest train stations to Townson Ground are Windermere and Ulverston both of which are found on branchlines off the West Coast Mainline service.

Both stations have a limited daytime bus service to Coniston and there are a number of taxi firms in each town (Please see bus and taxi sections for more information.) For train times & routes please click here

Arriving by Bus:

The nearest bus stop to Townson Ground & The Garden House is Monk Coniston but if you ask the bus driver nicely to drop you off at the head of the lake it will save you a longer walk. N.B. From the head of the lake it is half a mile walk, some of which is uphill, so please bear this in mind. For bus times & routes please click here

  

Arriving by Taxi:

Both Windermere and Ulverston have a number of taxi firms that can deliver you to Townson Ground & The Garden House from the train station. For an approximate guide on price a taxi from Windermere Station to Coniston is around £22 and from Ulverston to Coniston it would be around £30. N.B. These taxi's are on a meter so prices will fluctuate depending on traffic etc.

Arriving by Plane:

The nearest major airport to Townson Ground is Manchester which has a train station within the terminal that offers routes to the Lake District (see Train section for more information.) Inside the terminal it is also possible to hire a car for the duration of your stay, all the major hire car companies are represented, the drive to Coniston will take you approximately 2hours. Taxi hire is also available at an approximate rate of £150-£200 one way based on up to 5 people sharing.

Blackpool airport is also nearby (approximately 1.5 hours drive from Coniston) and it is possible to hire cars from the terminal there also. A taxi from Blackpool airport to Coniston would be £136 one way or £266 return based on up to 5 people sharing.
